KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Following additional damage assessments, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security?s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Public Assistance funding for Thomas County in the state of Nebraska to help local governments recover from damage associated with the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes May 4 ? 19, 2007.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Residents who need to make repairs to or rebuild their damaged homes as a result of the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes of May 4 - 19 have a responsibility to themselves, their families and their neighbors to rebuild in a way that reduces future flood and storm losses. This is called 'mitigation'.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Residents of Nebraska have witnessed how disasters threaten more than personal property and homes. The severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that occurred May 4 through May 19 damaged public buildings, utility systems, bridges, roads, and culverts, not to mention disrupting communications and emergency services. President Bush signed a federal disaster declaration on June 6, 2007 authorizing the release of grants through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) program to help affected communities recover.
