August 13, 2007 - News Release

WINDSOR, Conn. -- Massachusetts was hit hard by April's Nor'easter, leaving cities and towns in the Bay State with millions of dollars in damage. Roads and bridges, public buildings, parks and other public facilities sustained damage. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance program is providing a helping hand to local and state agencies and certain private nonprofit organizations with losses from the severe storms and flooding.

WINDSOR, Conn. -- The powerful storms that hit the Northeast last month caused some of the worst flooding to occur in Massachusetts in several years, affecting Barnstable, Berkshire, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire and Plymouth counties. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announces that one of the areas it will assist in its recovery efforts are private non-profit facilities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Massachusetts to supplement commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and inland and coastal flooding during the period of April 15-25, 2007.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
