ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated more than $18 million in Public Assistance (PA) funds to help New York counties repair flood damage and rebuild infrastructure damaged or destroyed in the April nor'easter. The 13 counties declared for PA are Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Montgomery, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Schoharie, Suffolk, Ulster, and Westchester.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Of the $12 million the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved to reimburse New York communities for April nor'easter damage repairs, about $2.4 million of that is to rebuild infrastructure to a higher standard. This effort is known as mitigation - an effort to break the cycle of damage and repair and reduce repetitive losses. President Bush signed a major disaster declaration for 14 New York counties as a result of the April 2007 nor'easter.  Thirteen counties were declared for the Public Assistance (PA) Program.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than $1 million in grants has been obligated for Essex County under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Program. Essex was one of 13 counties approved for PA grants for disaster-related damage from the April nor'easter. The program reimburses eligible state agencies, municipalities, and certain private non-profit organizations that provide essential services of a governmental nature.

The monies include individual assistance (IA) grants, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans, and public assistance (PA) funding for damage sustained during the April 14 - 18 nor'easter.
