Y. -- To date, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved. more than $1.2 million in disaster assistance for those affected by November flooding in Broome and Chenango counties, recovery officials said today. President Bush declared a major disaster declaration on December 12 for the severe storms and flooding that occurred in New York on November 16-17.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- To better serve those affected by the severe storms and flooding in November, a Disaster Recovery Center will open in Vestal, federal and state officials said today. The Disaster Recovery Center will open in the Town of Vestal , Vestal Library, at 320 Vestal Parkway East at noon on Friday, January 5. Hours of operations will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. An additional location in the Binghamton area will open soon.

The Disaster Recovery Center will open in the City of Binghamton, Metro Center, at 49 Court Street at noon on Friday, January 5. An additional Disaster Recovery Center will also open tomorrow at noon in the Vestal Town Library, 320 Vestal Parkway East. Hours of operations for both centers will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

ALBANY, N. Y. -- Inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are conducting damage assessments for homeowners and renters. This inspection is an important step in the recovery process and will help speed disaster assistance to those affected by the severe storms and flooding in November. "We are working quickly to meet the needs of Broome and Chenango county residents who have lost so much,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Marianne C. Jackson. “When an inspector calls, an applicant can help speed their assistance by setting up a meeting quickly.”
