October 26, 2006 - News Release

GLEN ALLEN, VA -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) announced that King George County is designated eligible for public infrastructure assistance associated with Tropical Depression Ernesto. King George joins twenty-two other counties and three cities under the disaster declaration of September 22, 2006.

GLEN ALLEN, VA -- If you aren’t located in a flood zone, you may think you don’t have to worry about protecting your home or business against flood damage. But, Mother Nature would tell you otherwise. Nearly a quarter of National Flood Insurance (NFIP) claims come from areas that aren’t considered at high risk for flooding. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has information for both home and business property owners on how to floodproof electrical, plumbing and heating systems.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
