ANDOVER, Mass. -- Federal and state officials in Massachusetts announced a two week extension for victims of the mid-May floods in Essex, Middlesex and Suffolk counties to register for assistance to help aid in recovery from uninsured or under-insured losses stemming from the event. The new deadline of August 7,2006 was granted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In the aftermath of a disaster, local, state and federal along with voluntary organizations have a variety of programs at their disposal to help individuals recover. These programs help one person at a time. However, disasters also impact the community as a whole, damaging public facilities and increasing the workload of local governments.

ANDOVER, Mass. -- Disaster recovery officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) urge victims of the May severe storms and flooding in Massachusetts to take the time to fill out a disaster loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) even if they do not want a loan.

ANDOVER, Mass. -- More than $30.7 million in state and federal assistance has been approved for Massachusetts following the severe storms and flooding that took place during May 12-23, 2006. To date, 9,306 households from the three disaster-declared counties (Essex – 6,178; Middlesex – 2,593; and Suffolk –535) have applied for disaster assistance since President Bush approved a federal disaster declaration on May 25.
