May 9, 2007 - News Release

SAN JUAN, P.R. -- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) funds were approved to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for damages set off by the flooding and landslides which occurred in the island on October 9-15, 2005. The total of $13,168,025.54 million dollars in federal funds have been obligated to thirty one applicants from state agencies, municipal governments and a private non-profit institution for infrastructure projects to rebuild and restore damaged public facilities. 

November 14, 2006 - News Release

SAN JUAN, P.R. -- More than $12.7 million has been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to rebuild and restore public facilities and other infrastructure.  The grants were approved under the Public Assistance (PA) program to supplement state and municipal recovery efforts due to the flooding, landslides, and mudslides which occurred on October 9-15, 2005.

February 7, 2006 - News Release

SAN JUAN, P.R. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today the approval of $1,214,441 million to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for acquisition of properties. The funds are being designated to the PR Department of Housing under FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
