ORLANDO , Fla. -- The deadline for Florida residents affected by Hurricane Wilma to apply for federal/state disaster assistance has been extended to Thursday, January 19 , say officials from the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Florida 's State Emergency Response Team (SERT). "We want to make sure every Floridian has had the opportunity to apply and receive the assistance for which he or she is eligible," Justin DeMello, federal coordinating officer, said. "Don't prejudge yourself, all and apply by January 19."

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Only one week remains for Florida residents and business owners who sustained damage from Hurricane Wilma to apply for disaster assistance. The deadline to apply is January 5. “For individuals who have already applied, their cases will continue to be processed,” Justin DeMello, federal coordinating officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said. “We want people to understand that Thursday, January 5th, is merely the end of the application period, which started October 24th when President Bush issued a major disaster declaration.”

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) operating in South Florida will no longer be open weekends. Normal hours for the centers are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until further notice, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Florida State Emergency Response Team (SERT). In addition, the DRC located at the Career & Service Center in Immokalee in Collier County will cease operations at the close of business on Friday, Dec. 30. To date, this DRC had served more than 1,900 residents.
