NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are working together to find apartments to house the anticipated 2,000 families that will be moving out of travel trailers or mobile homes and entering the rental housing market.? In order to do that, they are asking landlords to register their available rental units to help link families with homes.

DAVANT, La. -- East bank Plaquemines Parish residents have another place to go for recreation or relaxation this summer. Their only public swimming pool reopens today at the Davant Community Center with the backing of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding. The Olympic-size pool, which suffered structural and component damages during Hurricane Katrina, will be used for training lifeguards, swimming classes and other water-based recreational activities.

COVINGTON, La. -- The public is invited to view newly revised Preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMS) for St. Tammany Parish at an open house scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, 2008. The open house will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Pitcher Jr. High Gymnasium, 415 S. Jefferson Avenue, in Covington.

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Looking forward to a full recovery of St. Mary's Academy in New Orleans East, school officials held a demolition ceremony today to mark the beginning of the rebuilding phase of the historic institution. The effort, which showcased the demolition of St. Mary's main building, will open the way to a new permanent facility that will consolidate the nine school structures damaged by Hurricane Katrina into one building and a bus garage.

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Staff from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will host a housing information session for area residents currently living in FEMA-provided travel trailers and mobile homes. The sessions will provide residents with information about transitioning directly into HUD's Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP). Residents can now move directly from travel trailers or mobile homes into the DHAP program with no break in assistance between the two programs.

The open house will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 2nd Floor- Contraband Room, 900 Lakeshore Drive, in Lake Charles.
