This creates an ideal situation for con artists to take advantage of people. Federal and state disaster recovery officials caution disaster victims to be on the look out for anyone using the disaster as an opportunity to defraud.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In less than two weeks since President Bush issued a major disaster declaration, FEMA has approved a total of $1,058,273 in disaster assistance, recovery officials announced today. “At this point in the recovery process, we are focusing on and approving assistance through grants from the Individuals and Households Program (IHP),” explained Lee Champagne, FEMA’s coordinating officer. “This program provides temporary rental assistance for those whose homes have been destroyed or severely damaged and also funds repairs to make residences livable.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The joint federal/state Disaster Recovery Center operating in Hockingport, Ohio will permanently close at noon on Saturday, February 26. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will operate a Disaster Outreach Center in that same location beginning Monday, February 28 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, until further notice.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- To help meet the ongoing needs of Ohio disaster victims, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency are opening additional regional Disaster Recovery Centers in Circleville, Dillonvale and McConnelsville on Monday, February 28. Center locations and schedules are: South-Central Ohio - Memorial Hall (Conference Room) Corner of E. Main Street & S. Pickaway Circleville Monday and Tuesday, February 28 and March 1, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency have announced that three Disaster Recovery Centers will open this week to serve those affected by the winter storms and flooding that occurred between December 22 and February 1.
