HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The state and federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Carnegie, Allegheny County, will close on Saturday, Nov. 20. “The center will be closing in a few days but that doesn’t put an end to getting assistance,” said David M. Sanko, state coordinating officer. “Calling FEMA’s toll-free teleregistration number will still allow those who qualify to receive aid.”

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Facing natural disasters like the tropical storms that hit Pennsylvania in September doesn’t have to be a losing battle for homeowners. It is possible to fight back and reduce or even prevent major damages in a future disaster. “We want to make sure that people living in flood-prone areas know how they can make their properties better able to withstand the ravages of another disaster,” said David M. Sanko, state coordinating officer.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- More than $71.8 million in disaster recovery grants and disaster loans has been approved for Pennsylvania individuals and business owners who suffered losses as a result of flooding from September tropical storms Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, according to figures from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvanians who suffered damage or loss because of September’s flooding have one week left to apply for federal disaster assistance. Thursday, Nov. 18 is the last day to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) toll-free teleregistration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-621-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired. The lines are open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. Applicants can also register online at www.fema.gov.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- While many state and federal offices will be closed on Thursday, November 11, for Veteran's Day, state and federal officials want to assure residents that the joint federal/state Disaster Recovery Center in Carnegie will be open. The center has been set up to assist residents affected by the tropical storms of September.
