In an effort to provide the most up-to-date information and ease their concerns, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) officials have put together answers to the most frequently asked questions. ATLANTA, Ga. -- Individuals and business owners who sustained damage from Hurricane Ivan and who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance, have approximately 30 days to apply. November 17, 2004, is the last day to file an application according to officials of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA individual assistance for Georgia Hurricane Ivan has topped $2.1 million: FEMA has approved grants totaling $1,593,392 for housing assistance and $522,506 for other-needs assistance. A total of 1,870 individuals have registered for assistance in recovering from damages inflicted by Hurricane Ivan, which began affecting Georgia on September 14. FEMA inspectors have completed 1,145 inspections of damaged homes.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that disaster assistance has been made available for Clayton, Forsyth, Pike, and Upson Counties to help residents and local governments recover from the effects of Hurricane Ivan. Clayton and Forsyth Counties were approved for assistance to individuals. Pike and Upson Counties were approved for aid to local governments. Forsyth County was previously approved for local-government assistance.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The deadlines are approaching for Georgia residents eligible to file for disaster unemployment benefits, according to state and federal officials. Application deadlines are: October 21, 2004 for residents of Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Dawson, DeKalb, Early, Franklin, Fulton, Gilmer, Madison, Rabun, Towns, Union and White Counties. October 29, 2004 for residents of Dade, Miller and Pickens Counties.
