EAST LANSING, Mich. -- As the recovery from the May storms continues, state and federal disaster officials are encouraging Michigan residents to purchase flood insurance to guard against financial loss in future floods. “Flooding is the leading cause of property loss from natural disasters in this country,” said Marianne C. Jackson, federal coordinating officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), “and one of the best ways to protect your property is by purchasing insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program.”

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Federal and state officials want to remind those affected by the severe weather of May 20-24 that the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) operating in Dearborn Heights will close at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004. The DRC is located in the Fire Department Headquarters at 1999 N. Beech Daly and will continue to serve those who need assistance from now until the closing on Friday. Hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Since a major disaster declaration for Michigan was announced on June 30, more than $34.6 million in grants and more than $1.9 million in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loans have been approved to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from the severe storms, tornadoes and floods of May 20–24. Nearly 80,300 people have applied for disaster assistance.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The deadline to apply for disaster aid is quickly approaching and Michigan residents in 23 counties have less than one month left to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible state and federal disaster assistance. August 30 is the deadline to register for assistance.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Federal and state officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) operating in Dearborn Heights has served the needs of disaster victims and will close at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004. The DRC is located in the Fire Department Headquarters at 1999 N. Beech Daly and will continue to serve those who need assistance on Saturday, July 31, and Monday (Aug. 2) through Friday (Aug. 6) from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
