MADISON, Wis. -- With the August 18 application deadline less than three weeks away, Wisconsin residents affected by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes have been approved for more than $8,629,577 million in federal disaster assistance to date, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM).

MADISON, Wis. -- Federal and state officials are establishing a toll-free number for those affected by the severe storms, floods and tornadoes that occurred between May 19 and July 3 who still have essential needs not met by insurance or some form of federal, state or voluntary agency assistance.

MADISON, Wis. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has funded a grant of $187,355 to the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services to provide immediate crisis counseling services for victims of the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding. "Losing a home, business, or personal property to disaster takes a financial toll on victims," said Ron Sherman, FEMA federal coordinating officer. "But the emotional toll a disaster exacts can be devastating too. A victim's emotional recovery also needs to be addressed.”

Individual Assistance - Dollars Approved

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
