SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated $5.33 million as the federal share of the cost of repairs to public property in 14 Arkansas counties damaged by severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on April 19 and continued through May 7. These obligations cover 388 repair projects in the designated counties, including seven repair projects in Devil’s Den State Park. Funds for repairs to the dam at Devil’s Den State Park are pending approval.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that Independence County had been added to the list of Arkansas counties eligible for federal funding to help pay for damage to infrastructure from severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on April 19.

May 18, 2004 - News Release

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Arkansans in designated counties who suffered damage to their primary residence from flooding that soaked the state from April 19 through May 7 have until Monday, May 24 to apply for assistance through the Governor's Disaster Fund. As of Tuesday, May 18, 86 people had applied to ADEM for state assistance.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
