PAGO PAGO, American Samoa -- Delays in completing and returning disaster loan applications may delay other forms of disaster assistance, federal and territory officials said today. Officials of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the American Samoa Government (ASG) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urge disaster victims of Cyclone Heta to return their SBA applications as soon as possible.

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa -- All eligible residents of the 17 original villages, who suffered damages as a result of Cyclone Heta and did not register for disaster assistance earlier, will be able to come into the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Monday, February 23 after 9:00 am to make an appointment to register beginning Tuesday.

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa -- Residents of all of the villages which have not had an opportunity to come into the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be able to make an appointment on Thursday, February 5 after 9:00 am to register beginning Friday. Victims from the villages that have already had an opportunity to register will not be able to register at this time, but will invited back after all the other villages have registered.

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa -- Victims of Cyclone Heta are reminded that it is absolutely necessary that they bring required documents to their appointment at the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). Those persons appearing at the center without the documents will be asked to return at another time. One person, who must be living in the dwelling, only can apply on behalf of everyone living in the dwelling. The representative for each household must bring the following:

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa -- A FEMA Disaster Information Helpline has been established for persons who have been affected by Cyclone Heta and need information on the status of their applications for aid. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Government of American Samoa are encouraging individuals who have already registered at the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) and have questions about their registration to call the Helpline. The number is 633-3036 and is in operation Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm.
