September 18, 2003 - News Release

Nashville, TN - A total of $19,632,346 in federal and state disaster aid has been approved thus far for Fayette and Shelby County residents who were affected by the July 21-22 severe storms, high winds and heavy rain. President Bush, at the request of Gov. Phil Bredesen, made the disaster declaration on July 29, 2003. Of the nearly $20 million, 33,682 Shelby County residents have applied for and received $19,552,102 in disaster aid, while 141 Fayette County residents have received $80,244 in aid.

September 12, 2003 - News Release

Nashville, TN - A total of $16,461,493 in federal and state disaster aid has been approved thus far for Fayette and Shelby County residents who were affected by the July 21-22 severe storms, high winds and heavy rain. President Bush, at the request of Gov. Phil Bredesen, made the disaster declaration on July 29, 2003. Of the nearly $16.5 million, 29,270 Shelby County residents have applied for and received $16,409,733 in disaster aid, while 126 Fayette County residents have received $51,760 in aid.

September 9, 2003 - News Release

Nashville, TN -- The last remaining Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is scheduled to close on Friday, September 12. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will open a workshop at the same location on Monday, September 15.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
