July 18, 2003 - News Release

Sherwood, AR -- Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and State Coordinating Officer Rich Griffin of the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) remind those who0 have been affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in Arkansas between May 2 and June 10, 2003 to register for assistance as soon as possible. Registrations are accepted by calling toll-free to 800/621-FEMA (3362) or TTY: 800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired.

July 8, 2003 - News Release

Sherwood, AR -- As of close of business Monday (July 7, 2003) more than 1,200 Arkansans have applied for federal assistance to help with uninsured and underinsured damages to their primary residences caused by the May tornadoes, thunderstorms and flooding.

June 27, 2003 - News Release

Sherwood, AR -- Inspectors are now in the field verifying damages to homes and businesses caused by the storms that began May 2 through June 10 in many Arkansas counties. Disaster recovery officials advise applicants to ask for identification from anyone saying they are damage inspectors. All inspectors carry official photo identification. If an inspector is not wearing an identification card or badge, ask to see it. Individuals who have applied for disaster assistance can expect to hear from several different inspectors within the coming weeks.

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
