June 23, 2003 - News Release

Lenexa, KS -- Residents and business owners in Anderson, Allen, Cherokee, Crawford, Douglas, Haskell, Labette, Lawrence, Meade, Miami, Neosho, Osage, Seward, Woodson and Wyandotte counties, who sustained damage from tornadoes in May, have two more weeks to apply for disaster assistance. July 7 is the last day applications will be accepted. That is also the deadline for submitting loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property.

June 20, 2003 - News Release

Lenexa, KS -- Residents in Haskell, Meade and Seward counties, who sustained damage from tornadoes in May, have only one more week to apply for disaster unemployment assistance. June 27 is the last day unemployment assistance applications will be accepted. Residents should call the Kansas Department of Human Resources unemployment insurance toll free number 1-800-292-6333 to determine eligibility under the program.

June 20, 2003 - News Release

Lenexa, KS -- Recovery specialists with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will have a Safe Room on display in Kansas City, Missouri at the following location: Antioch Shopping Center 5307 Center Mall Kansas City, Missouri June 21-23-9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The display will be located in the bottom half of the parking lot.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
