Anchorage, AK -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Alaska are in the process of approving over $400,000 in Public Assistance money to help various local and state agencies in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, recover from the winter-storm of March 6-15, 2003. Public Assistance is a cost-sharing program with FEMA paying 75% and the State of Alaska paying 25%.

Anchorage, AK -- Approximately $656,000 in recovery assistance has been approved or disbursed to individuals and business owners who sustained damages from the severe winter storm, March 6-14, said federal and state officials. President George Bush declared residents and businesses within the Municipality of Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula and Mat-Su Boroughs eligible for federal disaster aid on April 26.

Anchorage, AK -- The federal government and the State of Alaska have written project worksheets in the City of Palmer for $31,000 to repair eligible storm-damaged public facilities and equipment. The money will also be used to defray unscheduled emergency-response costs, resulting from the severe winds and freezing temperatures during March 6-14, federal officials said.

Anchorage, AK -- For Anchorage and Palmer residents who wish to meet with Recovery Specialists to ask about available assistance for damages resulting from the winter storm of March 6-14, the time for visiting the Disaster Recovery Centers is getting shorter. State and federal officials have announced that both DRCs will close at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22nd.

More than 630 people seeking help after the March 6-14 disaster have registered for assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for people who have hearing or speech impairments. FEMA has approved $311,325 for Housing Assistance, and $303,872 has been distributed.
