Philippi, WV -- Citizens in the City of Philippi, Barbour County, will get a 10 percent discount on most National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies. Philippi residents are eligible for these savings thanks to the voluntary efforts undertaken by community officials to exceed the minimum standards of the NFIP. This discount will be applied to eligible new or renewed policies after May 1, 2003.
Charleston, WV -- The figures are remarkable. In the last quarter-century, more than 17,000 West Virginians with flood insurance have received more than $1.6 billion in loss payments. In the last fiscal year alone, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) paid out 595 claims to state policyholders to the tune of $5.5 million. And now, water-logged state residents with and without flood insurance are faced with an enormous new set of rebuilding and repairing costs after the double-deluge of torrential rainfall, and snow and ice associated with the winter storms.
Charleston, WV -- More than $11.4 million dollars is being processed for payment to eligible applicants to reimburse costs of Public Assistance (PA) and provide Individual Assistance (IA) to West Virginians as a result of the Feb. 16 storm according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and West Virginia Office of Emergency Services (WVOES) officials. Financial assistance in the amount of $6,519,037 has been obligated to repair or replace disaster-damaged public facilities through FEMA's PA program.
