Chillicothe, OH -- Less than one month remains for Ohio residents affected by the destructive winter weather events that began February 14 to register for disaster assistance, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA).

Chillicothe, OH -- To date, $2,082,417 in grants and low-interest disaster loans has been approved for Ohioans since President Bush's disaster declaration of March 14. Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help people who suffered damage or loss from the February severe winter storm. This is an update of recovery activities as of close of business April 9, according to figures released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA).

Chillicothe, OH -- Ross County has been declared eligible for disaster assistance to help local governments impacted by February's severe winter storm, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Mike Hall, deputy federal coordinating officer. Hall said the assistance was approved following a review of data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials. The addition of Ross County raises to 30 the total number of Ohio counties eligible for some type of disaster assistance under President Bush's March 14 disaster declaration.

Chillicothe, OH -- Victims of February's winter storm who receive a loan application from the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) should take the time to fill it out - even if they don't want a loan, urged disaster recovery officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA). Many of the people who call the toll-free number - 1-800-621-FEMA - and apply for assistance will receive a packet containing the SBA loan application within seven to ten days of making the call.

Chillicothe, OH -- Disaster assistance for Preble County has been made available to help local governments impacted by February's severe winter storm, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. Micahel D. Brown, FEMA director and under secretary designee for the Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate, a part of the Department of Homeland Security, said the assistance was approved following a review of data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials.

Chillicothe, OH -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA) have a system in place to identify the very small percentage of applicants who try to cash in on others' misfortune during the disaster recovery process. "Managing a multi-million-dollar disaster program always means walking a fine line between speedy service to those who need it and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not misused," Dale Shipley, Ohio EMA state coordinating officer, said.
