Baton Rouge, LA -- Unemployed and self-employed workers whose jobs were lost or interrupted by the effects of Hurricane Lili have until Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, to register for disaster unemployment. The special disaster unemployment program applies only to those who are not covered by regular state unemployment insurance. Disaster recovery officials said applicants should take their social security numbers with them when visiting the nearest state or parish unemployment registration office.

Self-employed and unemployed workers not covered by regular state unemployment insurance programs may apply for this federally funded assistance, but the deadline for doing so is just days away. Applicants should take their social security numbers with them when visiting the nearest state or parish unemployment registration office.
