Baton Rouge, LA -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line, 800-621-FEMA, will shut down Wed. Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. (CST) for Thanksgiving and reopen Fri., Nov.29 at 8 a.m. according to recovery officials. The line for speech or hearing-impaired residents (TTY/TDD) 800-462-7585 will also be closed for the holiday. After the holiday closure, registration lines will return to their normal operating hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon. through Sat.

Baton Rouge, LA -- As the mandatory Dec. 2 registration deadline looms nearer, disaster recovery officials report a continuing outflow of federal-state disaster funds to help Louisiana residents recover from the hardship and loss resulting from Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili. Carlos Mitchell, federal coordinating officer urged any residents with uninsured disaster-related losses to register for disaster assistance before the 60-day application period expires on Mon. Dec 2.

Baton Rouge, LA -- U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) officials announced plans to cease operations at their five Louisiana disaster loan-assistance centers at 6 p.m. (close-of-business) on Fri. Nov. 22. The centers were established in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili to help answer questions about available low-interest disaster loans and to provide assistance with applications. Parish residents who registered for disaster assistance are welcome to visit the workshops between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. before they close down.
