Dededo, Guam -- As part of the disaster recovery effort, the Individual and Family Grant (IFG) Program has been activated for the people of Chuuk State, according to Federal and FSM disaster recovery officials. "The program provides grants to persons who have serious disaster-related needs and expenses that are not covered by any federal, state and volunteer disaster assistance programs," FCO Bill Carwile said.

Dededo, Guam -- Although three months have passed since President Bush approved the initial disaster declaration for Chuuk, recovery efforts continue daily, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials. Individual and Public Assistance totaling more than $10.6 million has been approved to date.

Dededo, Guam -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Federal States of Micronesia a grant of $40,000 to provide crisis counseling for residents of Chuuk state. "People in Chuuk have seen their lives severely affected by Tropical Storm Chata'an that hit the state in July", Federal Coordinating Officer Bill Carwile said in approving funds to support the program. "Recovery needs extend beyond physical and financial. FEMA's role is to provide citizens with the basic necessities to rebuild their lives."

Dededo, Guam -- To facilitate typhoon recovery efforts for Federated States of Micronesia's (FSM) Chuuk citizens, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began issuing emergency home repair vouchers on September 21. The vouchers will be exchanged for building materials and other supplies required to make the necessary essential repairs.

Dededo, Guam -- Public Assistance has been approved for Pohnpei State to help local governments recover from the effects of Tropical Storm Chata'an, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. Damage to Pohnpei, one of the states in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), was caused by extremely high winds and surge. FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said Public Assistance was added to the disaster declaration issued on July 11 by President Bush, based upon initial damage assessments gathered by federal, FSM and Pohnpei officials.

Dededo, Guam -- Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began a two-week Applicant Assistance boat tour of the Outer Islands of Chuuk on Sept. 11th. The visits are being conducted to provide people affected by Tropical Storm Chata'an with a place to apply for federal help. FEMA currently has Disaster Recovery Centers in Chuuk taking disaster applications. Since it is difficult for people living on the outer islands to visit these centers, FEMA is bringing the floating Recovery Center to them.

Dededo, Guam -- The same day President Bush signed a disaster declaration for the Federated States of Micronesia, and less than 24 hours from the time the request was sent from the FSM President, the delivery of emergency medical supplies to Chuuk state was coordinated by a team of specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
