San Antonio, TX -- Texas residents and business owners who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance in the aftermath of the June/July flooding have only one week remaining to apply. September 30, 2002, is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to officials from the Division of Emergency Management, Texas Department of Public Safety (DEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

San Antonio, TX -- Federal and state disaster assistance for the recent storms and flooding in central and south Texas counties this year has exceeded $65 million. Through August 19, federal and state disaster assistance for individuals, families, businesses and local government entities has reached $65,564,134. Bexar County was one of 39 counties included in a Presidential disaster declaration issued July 4 for losses due to flooding. Of the 23,309 registrations for assistance across the 39-county declared disaster area, 5,181 or 22% have been from Bexar County.

San Antonio, TX -- The Canyon Lake Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Comal County will close at 6 p.m., on Friday, August 23. "The decision to close the Canyon Lake DRC signals the closing of the final of 20 DRC locations that were opened in central and south Texas," said Scott Wells, Federal Coordinating Officer. "Even though the centers will all be closed down at 6 p.m., August 23, help is still available by phone."
