Springfield, IL -- The total of disaster assistance has topped $10.3 million for approved grants and low-interest loans to many of the 3,419 Illinois residents who have already called to apply. According to figures released by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), at the close of business on June 27, the following numbers of people have applied for or received assistance:
Springfield, IL -- Just one month after President Bush authorized a major disaster declaration for Illinois, more than $7.8 million in disaster grants and low-interest loans has been approved for more than half of the 3,000 Illinois residents who have called to apply for assistance. Homeowners, renters and business owners in a total of 68 counties throughout central and southern Illinois may be eligible for individual assistance and 33 of those counties are also eligible for infrastructure assistance to local governments.
Springfield, IL -- Disaster assistance for Adams, Effingham, Fayette, Hancock and Richland Counties has been expanded to include aid for local governments affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and floods in Illinois, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today.

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.
*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
