Wise, VA -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractors are wrapping up debris removal efforts in Hurley. This week is the last opportunity for Hurley area residents to complete the Right-of-Entry forms that allow the Corps or its contractors to enter a property to remove flood debris.

Because of a presidential disaster declaration, the counties of Bedford, Buchanan, Campbell, Cumberland, Greensville, Prince Edward, Shenandoah and Tazewell and the independent city of Bedford are eligible for federal disaster assistance due to tornadoes, severe storms and flooding that occurred from April 28 through May 3.

Wise, VA -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) remind Virginia residents to complete and return their disaster loan applications, even if they don't intend to take a loan. The loan applications were distributed to those who registered for disaster assistance following May flooding, tornadoes and severe storms.

Wise, VA -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Hurley, serving residents of Buchanan County, is changing its hours of operation. Beginning Friday, June 7 the new hours for the center will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is located at the Hurley Middle School on State Route 643. Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other government agencies are on hand to provide information about disaster assistance programs and to answer questions from flood victims.

Wise, VA -- June 3, 2002 Buchanan and Tazewell county residents who suffered damages from May flooding and severe storms have one week left to apply for disaster unemployment assistance. The deadline for residents of these counties is June 10. Anyone interested in filing for disaster unemployment assistance should visit the nearest Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) field office.
