Wise, VA -Help may be available for homeowners and renters who face mortgage foreclosure or eviction because of economic hardships related to flooding and tornadoes that occurred from April 28 to May 3. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Mortgage and Rental Assistance Program is designed to assist people whose homes were not damaged by the flooding but, because of disaster-related financial hardships, cannot make mortgage or rent payments.

Wise, VA - Disaster assistance has been made available for five counties and one independent city in Virginia, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. The declaration covers tornadoes, severe storms, and flooding that occurred from April 28 through May 3. The areas included in the declaration are Halifax, Pittsylvania, Prince George, Scott, and Wise counties and the independent City of Emporia. All areas were designated for Individual Assistance, which provides aid to individuals, families and business owners.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
