Kansas City, Mo.-- Federal, state, local, and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Missourians recover from the recent ice storm. The following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts for the week of March 2 to March 8. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will update this information weekly.

Kansas City, MO -- Residents of Missouri who suffered damage from the January ice storm have until April 8, 2002 to apply for federal disaster assistance programs. Those who have suffered damages and do not register during the open application period may not be eligible for programs currently available.

Kansas City, MO -- Residents in 33 Missouri counties who are unemployed due to the severe winter ice storm have until March 11, 2002 to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Disaster Unemployment Assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state's regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers or other self-employed individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.

Kansas City, MO -- For Missouri residents who wish to have face-to-face meetings with Recovery Specialists, the time for visiting two Disaster Recovery Centers is getting shorter. State and federal officials have announced that Saturday, March 2, will be the last day for two Disaster Recovery Centers. The centers opened February 15 to help individuals and businesses affected by the winter ice storm.
