Kansas City, MO -- The last day to register for federal disaster assistance is Monday, April 8, 2002. Residents of Missouri who suffered damage from the January ice storm must register before that day for federal disaster assistance programs. Those who have suffered damages and don't register during the open application period may not be eligible for programs currently available.

Kansas City, MO -- As spring approaches, so does the threat of unexpected flooding. State and federal disaster officials are reminding homeowners throughout Missouri that they may purchase flood insurance coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). You don't need to live near water to be flooded. Flooding can be caused by storms, melting snow, water backup from inadequate or overloaded drainage systems and dam or levee failure.

Kansas City, MO -- For residents of 10 Missouri counties, March 18th is the one-week deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance due to the January ice storm. Individuals seeking to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance must do so no later than March 25th to be eligible.

Kansas City, MO -- Operating hours for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration line will change on March 15, 2002. The new hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., five days a week. The toll-free registration line was established for residents and business owners in 43 designated Missouri counties to apply for disaster assistance because of the recent ice storm. Renters, homeowners and business owners with storm damage may apply for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
