Charleston, WV -- Disaster assistance for Calhoun and Putnam counties has been approved to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from the effects of the recent storms, landslides and flooding, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. This brings to 18 the number of West Virginia counties that have been designated for help.

Charleston, WV -- Disaster assistance for Preston County has been made available to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from the severe storms and flooding the night of June 7, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced June 18. FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said the assistance was approved based on a review of damage data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials. The county was added for the aid under the major disaster declaration issued by President Bush on June 3.

Charleston, WV -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a toll-free number that residents of West Virginia can call to receive information about disaster assistance. Those who have registered for state and federal disaster assistance can call the FEMA Helpline at 800-525-0321 to receive information about, or provide updates, to their application. It is important that persons registered with FEMA provide a current address and phone number if they move.

Charleston, WV -- More than $1 million in disaster housing assistance has been approved, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials. The funds, issued within ten days of the declaration, are to help families meet their disaster housing needs following the flooding, storms and landslides that occurred between May 15 and June 11. In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved $34,800 in low-interest disaster loans.

Charleston, WV -- State and federal disaster recovery officials announce the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Wyoming County for residents who sustained damage due to the severe storms, flooding and landslides that occurred between May 15 and June 11. The DRC, will be located in the Mullens City Hall and be open from Monday, June 18 to Saturday, June 23. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Charleston, WV -- A town meeting designed to help disaster victims learn the "ins and outs" of disaster assistance will be held in Kanawha County, at the Dunbar National Guard Armory at 7 p.m., Monday, June 18.
