July 17, 2001 - News Release

St Paul, MN -- Federal disaster funds have been made available for Nobles County to help local governments rebuild public property damaged by the recent severe storms in Minnesota, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said the assistance was approved following a review of damage data gathered by federal and state disaster recovery officials.

St Paul, MN -- In the six weeks since President Bush declared a major disaster in Minnesota, $6,301,000 has been approved for disaster assistance to help individuals, families and business owners recover from damages caused by flooding, tornadoes and severe storms. These figures were announced by officials from the Minnesota Division of Emergency Management (DEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

St. Paul, MN -- People who suffered damages from the recent storms and tornadoes in disaster--declared counties have until July 31 to call and apply for federal--state disaster assistance, said officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Minnesota Division of Emergency Management (DEM).

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
