Phoenix, AZ -- January 5, 2001 is the last day for disaster victims in four Arizona counties plus the Gila River Indian Community to apply for federal and state disaster assistance, according to Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi and State Coordinating Officer Michael P. Austin, Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.

Phoenix, AZ -- State and federal disaster recovery officials are advising Arizona residents who have disaster-related damage to be extremely careful when hiring contractors to clean-up and repair their homes and businesses. "Scam artists are often ready to seize the opportunity to capitalize on the misfortune of others," Director Michael P. Austin of Arizona Division of Emergency Management, warns.

Phoenix, AZ -- Due to the holidays, telephone numbers set up to assist persons who incurred damage from severe storms and flooding that stuck the state in October and November, will be closed temporarily on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25; and on New Year's Day, Monday, Jan. 1, 2001. The Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) set up these telephone lines to register disaster victims for assistance and to provide additional information on the disaster recovery process.

Phoenix, AZ -- Eligible disaster victims in designated jurisdictions in Arizona who need help and have not yet applied for federal and state disaster assistance must do so by Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.

FEMA/State Local Assistance Center in Wenden To Close Friday But Facility To Reopen as Information Center
Phoenix, AZ -- The Local Assistance Center in Wenden closes on Friday, Dec. 15, state and federal disaster recovery officials announced today. This is the last week for eligible residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of the Oct. 21 to Nov. 8 severe storms and flooding to meet face-to-face with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM). The facility will reopen staffed with local representatives on Monday, Dec. 18.
