Washington, DC -- Federal disaster funds were made available today to help the District of Columbia recover from the effects of severe thunderstorms that occurred on August 7, according to the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA Director James Lee Witt said President Clinton authorized the aid under a major disaster declaration issued this afternoon following a review of the agency's analysis of the District's recent request for federal aid.
