Parsons, KS -- Many residents of Crawford, Labette and Neosho counties received losses and damages from the severe storms and tornadoes on April 19th and 20th. Anyone who suffered storm-related damage should call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration number 1-800-462-9029 (TTY-1-800-462-7585). Lines are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CDT) until further notice.

Parsons, KS -- Disaster officials of both Kansas Division Emergency Management (KDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urge owners of wind-damaged property and building contractors working in the affected area to check with local zoning officials before making extensive repair or rebuilding wind-damaged property.

Parsons, KS -- State and federal disaster recovery officials advise Kansans to be extremely careful when hiring contractors to clean and repair disaster damage, offer to construct Safe Rooms or remove disaster debris. Some scam artists claim to be "FEMA certified or FEMA approved." The Federal Emergency Management Agency neither certifies nor endorses any private-sector contractor. Individuals and government entities should be extremely cautious when hiring contractors after any disaster.

Parsons, KS -- City officials today finalized plans to assist the residents of Parsons with removal of debris that resulted from the severe storms and tornadoes that occurred on April 19th and 20th. Glen Welden, Parsons City Manager announced that beginning on the morning of May 22nd, city crews will begin picking up all debris for home owners and renters.

Parsons, KS -- Federal, state and local officials announced that a free 30-minute presentation on Safe Room construction and current construction costs will be held Monday at the City Municipal Building Auditorium in Parsons. The presentation, which is open to the general public, contractors and local government officials will be given at 2:00 PM and again at 7:00 PM Individuals who were affected by the recent severe storms and tornadoes on April 19th and 20th and people from the surrounding communities are encouraged to attend.

Parsons, KS -- State and federal officials announced today that travel trailers are being purchased to meet the immediate housing needs for individuals who have been displaced as a result of the severe storms and tornadoes on April 19th and 20th. "Disaster victims in Crawford, Labette and Neosho counties may qualify for this temporary program," said Anne Allen, state coordinating officer.
