The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management are encouraging all those affected by Hurricane Floyd to call the toll-free teleregistration number - 1-800-462-9029 - by 6:00 PM today.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of Hurricane Floyd have only 5 more days to visit the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center in Somerville, federal and state disaster recovery officials announced today. "Visits to our Disaster Recovery Center have tapered off," said federal coordinating officer, Peter Martinasco. "As a result, we will be closing the center at 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 11th. But even after it closes, FEMA will be as close as a telephone call away,"

Recovery seemed to be a distant dream. But two months later, communities have pulled together, and with the help of state, federal and volunteer agencies, made remarkable progress.

Beginning Monday, November 22, 1999, individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Floyd can register for assistance by calling the toll-free number from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at 1-800-462-9029. Persons with a speech or hearing impairment can call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY).
