HARRISBURG, Pa. -- If you're among thousands of Pennsylvanians putting lives and property back in order because of flooding, you may have questions about the help available to you under three disaster declarations made by President Clinton last month.
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Juniata or McKean County residents who suffered losses as a result of severe weather and flooding Aug. 20 and 21 have only one more week to apply for state and federal disaster aid. The deadline to apply is Nov. 1. "We've had more than 900 applicants from these counties requesting help," said Jack Schuback, federal coordinating officer for the Pennsylvania disaster-recovery effort. "However, there may be people who need help and have not applied. We would like to reach every eligible disaster victim."
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- State and federal disaster officials are urging Pennsylvania property owners to do whatever is necessary to make their homes and businesses safe and habitable right now, and not to wait for buyouts from the government. "Buying up property through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) can be a long process," says Jack Schuback, the federal disaster coordinator in Pennsylvania. "Funding for this program is limited, and unfortunately, not everyone who wants a buyout will get one."
