CORPUS, CHRISTI, Texas -- Hurricane Bret victims in 13 South Texas counties have until 5 p.m. next Thursday (Oct. 21) to apply for disaster-recovery assistance. So far, more than 16,000 have called the toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585 for individuals with speech or hearing impairments.)

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The two remaining Disaster Recovery Centers located in Corpus Christi and Falfurrias will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 21. The centers were established in the wake of Hurricane Bret to provide information about disaster recovery programs and direct, personal assistance to disaster victims.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- South Texans who had losses as a result of Hurricane Bret have until 5 p.m. Thursday, October 21 to register for assistance by calling the toll-free teleregistration number, 1-800-462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Applicants may call between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

DENTON, Texas -- Hurricane Bret victims in South Texas have until 6 p.m. Thursday Oct. 21 to apply for disaster-recovery assistance. So far, more than 15,000 have called the toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585 for individuals with speech or hearing impairments.) Residents and business owners in 13 South Texas counties are eligible to apply for federal assistance that can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, minor home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Beginning this weekend the Disaster Recovery Centers opened in the wake of Hurricane Bret will be closed on weekends. The hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The centers will also be closed Monday, October 11, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday The Disaster Recovery Center in Kingsville will close permanently at 6 p.m. Friday, October 8. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Damage inspectors are now in the field visiting people who have filed applications for assistance for losses and damages from Hurricane Bret, said Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Texas Division of Emergency Management officials. Residents who have applied for disaster assistance can expect to hear from one or more inspectors who will schedule a visit to look at damaged property, said Ed Laundy, state coordinating officer.
