CHEYNENNE, Wyo. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Wyoming Emergency Management Agency (WEMA) today announced the approval of federal public assistance to help reimburse applicants in Niobrara County for eligible disaster-related expenditures following last October's severe winter storm. Niobrara County, Wyoming sustained severe winds, freezing temperatures, ice and snow on October 5, 1998, resulting in the loss of electrical power throughout the county. This storm left all 2,499 county residents without power.

February 17, 1999 - News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that President Clinton has made federal disaster funds available for Wyoming to help communities in Niobrara County recover from the effects of a severe winter storm that struck the area late last year.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
