March 15, 1999 - News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tornado disaster victims in Tennessee have received a total of $16.1 million in aid as of today. More than 1,942 Tennesseans have applied for the various forms of federal/state aid so far. The application period will close March 19. Those who have not already applied should call 1-800-462-9029 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST Monday through Friday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of the recent tornadoes have just a short time to visit FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers in Clarksville and Jackson, federal and state disaster recovery officials announced today.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A mobile Disaster Recovery Center begins a series of visits through seven counties ravaged by January's tornadoes Thursday, Febuary 4, with its first stop scheduled in Huron at the Westover community of Henderson County.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
