WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Kansas residents following the severe storms and floods that occurred between October 30 and November 15, 1998. The following is a summary of assistance provided as of the Disaster Field Office closing on January 15, 1999. More than 2,388 victims of the recent severe storms and floods have registered for assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line. The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved $11,676,800 in disaster loans.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kansas disaster victims who have not yet registered for federal disaster assistance have only two more weeks to apply. January 4, 1999, is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
