SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Communities can be a vital partner with federal and state agencies in providing disaster relief, says the Texas Division of Emergency Management (DEM). And to help your community help others, the state has established a Donations Information Hotline. The toll-free number is 1-800-839-4636. It is staffed by local volunteers seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to help match donation offers with community relief organizations.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A Disaster Recovery Center is scheduled to open in Gonzales on Mon. Nov. 2, to serve the victims of the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that began Oct. 17, according to state and federal disaster officials. The center will be located at the Norwest Bank, 301 St. Joseph Street, and will operate on opening day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Subsequent hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. Individuals may go to the recovery center to:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The State/Federal Disaster Field Office (DFO) for the recent Texas floods is now fully operational and the focus has shifted from disaster response to recovery. Five Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) opened on Oct. 28 in Cuero (DeWitt County), New Braunfels (Comal County), San Antonio (Bexar County), Victoria (Victoria County) and Wharton (Wharton County).

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- More than 100 people a day are stepping into hot showers, thanks to the installation of two portable units set up in Cuero for individuals displaced by the recent severe storms, flooding and tornadoes. Since the units were installed, 416 individuals living in the nearby temporary shelter have taken advantage of the hot showers.
