WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced the release of a federal action plan ordered by President Clinton for the long-term recovery of families and communities in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Georges.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Federal and state disaster recovery assistance to individuals following the summer and fall storms, floods and tornadoes is almost $178 million. Another $21.5 million has been delivered or earmarked for public assistance to local and state governments to reimburse eligible costs for emergency services, debris removal and infrastructure repairs. Individual assistance includes:

January 11, 1999 - News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (DEM) are opening a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Robstown in Nueces County for three days. The DRC will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14-16, to serve those affected by the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes of Oct. 17 to Nov. 15, 1998.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
