KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- December 14 is the last day that disaster assistance applications can be accepted for the October storms and flooding in Missouri and Kansas, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials. President Clinton declared the region a disaster area on Oct. 14, because of severe storms and flooding. The declaration made available a variety of assistance programs to assist residents and business owners recover and rebuild.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Missouri and Kansas residents following President Clinton's disaster declarations in both states for the severe storms and flooding that occurred in early October. The following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) and is current as of Nov.12, 1998.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line, established for those who were affected by the severe October storms and flooding, has changed its operating hours for applicants calling from Missouri. According to Curt Musgrave, FEMA federal coordinating officer for Missouri, the line will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, effective immediately. Previously, the line had been open on Saturdays as well.

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
