As you know, September is National Preparedness Month. Pledge to prepare by joining the National Preparedness Coalition and help spread the preparedness message by organizing or participating in a preparedness event. The National Preparedness Coalition Website makes planning your activities easy and fun.
The 2012 National Preparedness Coalition Online Community is the largest community yet, with over 15,500 members connecting and collaborating on emergency preparedness. Members are empowering themselves to prepare and coordinating preparedness activities with family, neighbors, co-workers, and those with whom they may study or worship.
By joining the coalition group you will:

- Help others prepare and increase our resilience.
Not only can you share your ideas and learn about new ones on the various discussion forums, you can also plan events and see what other communities across the country are doing. With an interactive calendar feature, the Coalition Website allows you to post event details on specific dates and include location and activity summaries. It’s a great way to see what others in your area are doing and also to get ideas on types of events you can host in your community. In addition the Website provides access to ready-to-use templates, posters, Web banners and traditional and social media for your reference and distribution.
DHS will host an Employee Preparedness Fair on September 20 at the Nebraska Avenue Complex (NAC) in support of National Preparedness Month and the Employee Preparedness Initiative (EPI). The fair will be held at the NAC campus on Thursday, September 20, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in front of Building 19. The event will be moved to the NAC gymnasium if there is inclement weather. We invite and welcome all DHS employees in the National Capital Region to attend this event in order to learn more about how to prepare for emergencies.
