Subject: Limited Coverage for Elevated Buildings
Background: In 1989, Policy Issuance 1-89 specified that the elevated coverage limitation applicable to Post-FIRM buildings only applied in map risk zones A1-A30 (AE), AH, and V1-V30 (VE). When the new policy forms effective October 1, 1994, were developed, the intent was to continue this rule, and this was expressed in the summary in the policy jacket. However, inadvertently this coverage limitation was made applicable in special hazard areas (see Article 6.F.1.), which were defined in Article 2 as encompassing additional map risk zones.
Policy Statement: It is the purpose of this policy issuance to clarify that the elevated building coverage limitation in Article 6.F. of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy applies only to Post-FIRM buildings in map risk zones A1-A30 (AE), AH, and V1-V30 (VE). It should be noted that map risk zones A1-A9 and V1-V9 are sometimes listed as A01-A09 and V01-V09. This coverage limitation does not apply in the following map risk zones: unnumbered A, unnumbered V, AO, VO, A99, AR, M, E, B, C, or X.
