The Carroll Street Bridge, which spans the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, is back in service after it was heavily damaged by the storm surge from Hurricane Sandy in late October of 2012. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided funds to the New York City Department of Transportation to help with repair costs.
