The FEMA Region X Alaska Area Office serves as a forward field office for pre-disaster preparedness and planning, as well as a staging and work area for Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) teams. FEMA staff are joined by uniformed Defense Coordinating Element (DCE) personnel.

The office was opened on July 9, 2007 and is located in the Anchorage Federal Building Annex.
