First Ever POD Event

The event tested emergency management procedures and operations, internal and external coordination of the emergency plan and coordination with external response agencies. Full Story

Historically, states across the country have kept their emergency management activities within their borders. However, catastrophic events do not respect state boundaries, especially in the Northeast where many states are relatively small and densely populated. The Northeast States Emergency Consortium was developed to address those situations.

Between 1938 – 1954, three Category 3 hurricanes made landfall in New England. “Can a Katrina-like event happen here?” – the answer is yes. A second question – “are we prepared?” – isn’t as simple to answer. But FEMA's Vision 2010 seeks to answer it. Full Story


Longterm Recovery: Meeting The Challenge

It is an often used phrase: 'all disasters begin local and end local.' Long term recovery groups throughout New England got together to discuss disasters and recovery from those disasters, including the often hidden needs that aren't apparent until long after the event. Full Story

Senior State Advisors

State Senior Advisors (SSAs) are the first FEMA representatives in an Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) when it is activated. They are the eyes and ears of the agency at the onset of a disaster event. Once in place, the SSA will be responsible for coordinating all outreach efforts between the regional office and their respective state. Full Story
