Region I Environmental Officer
Jack Sullivan joined FEMA in 1991 after careers in teaching and in warehousing and distribution. He initially served as a member of FEMA’s Individual Assistance program for disasters nationwide, including Hurricane Andrew, the Midwest Floods of 1993 and the Northridge Earthquake of 1994. Later he became part of the Environmental and Historic Preservation Cadre, where he served until 2000 when he joined the Mitigation Division at FEMA Region I.
Jack’s emergency assignment with Emergency Response Team brought him to the New Orleans Superdome following Hurricane Katrina. His private sector background and knowledge in warehousing and distribution aided him in locating needed commodities for the evacuees.
Since October 2008, Jack has been serving as the Acting Hazard Mitigation Assistance Branch Chief, in addition to his duties as the Regional Environmental officer. During this time, he has expertly reached out to other federal agencies, the states, the tribes and other interested partners to build partnerships for resolving problems of mutual concern, and is commended for his outstanding efforts during this time.
